We consider this now our Winter Season, so it’s quite fitting to have snow around, but we’re just not used to it.
We’ve obviously never had a foot of snow this early in the season before, and our row covers that were quaint a week ago are now laughable as they emerge in their new squished state from under the melting snow.
We are enormously grateful that there wasn’t much in the field that we hoped to harvest now, because digging under the snow for vegetables is not what we had in mind for this week. So, we took shelter in our hoop-houses to harvest goodness for you this week.
We are sad, however, about the additional precipitation that has now begun. Come on, 2018! Enough rain already!
We’ll be at the Farmer’s Market @ St. Stephen’s tomorrow with our goods, but we are about to really finish up 2018. We’ll have our Farm Shares/CSA Shares next week, our FarmStand will be open next week, and we’ll be at the Farmer’s Market @ St. Stephen’s on Saturday, December 22. After that, we will be closed until early January. Stay tuned for updates for when our vegetables and bread will start being available in 2019.
Our Winter Farm Share is sold out, but there are shares available for our main season which runs May through November. Read details here and please sign up to join us in 2019! We are offering a new *customizable* Farm Share through the new software called Harvie. We saw members swapping out items for things they wanted for their menus last week, adding on extra veggies, adding on loaves of bread, and celebrating that setting their preferences worked! (“I indicated that I never want Turnips, and I’m glad to not get them! I’ve tried to love them, but they just aren’t my thing!”) This new system is slick and if you’re not using it yet, we think you will love it.
Our harvest this week includes:
Beets, Carrots, Chinese (Napa) Cabbage, Dill, Kale, Microgreens, Salad Mix, Spinach…and our Organic Hearth Baked Bread (Baguettes, Herb, Whole Rye, Raisin, & Seed loaves for this weekend).
{Our farmstand is open with most of the above items…see here for updated inventory}
Everything remaining after member shares are filled and our farm stand is shopped (plus the bread we bake Saturday morning)… we’ll bring on Saturday to the Farmer’s Market @ St. Stephen’s. Keep an eye on what we have available via the online farmers’ markets: FallLineFarms.com.
Enjoy ~
Janet, Dan, & the whole Broadfork crew
