We have harvested a delicious load of vegetables for our customers this week! We have plenty of Salad Mix | Hearty Greens Mix | Radishes | Arugula | Spinach | Lettuce Heads | Microgreens | Sugar Snap Pea Shoots | Tomato Plants | Sweet Pepper Plants | Lettuce, Kale, Arugula, Cabbage Plants | Herb Plants and more at the Farmers’ Market @ St. Stephens tomorrow. The weather is forecasted to be beautiful here in Richmond. We look forward to seeing you at market!
Here’s a round up of some of our most favorite accessories for our Vegetables | Bread | Plants:
The world’s most bomber Salad Spinner: Zyliss wins the prize. The link is for a more recent model than the one we have owned for many years, so hopefully it is only even better. Our greens spin at Mach 3, we swear. Get the large one, not the small one. #eatmoresalad
The BEST oil and vinegar to top our salad comes from the Olive Oil Taproom. The only trouble is deciding upon just 2 or so varieties to take home of the 55 or so options they have! It really is the best. Our children have become quite the olive-oil-and-vinegar snobs after getting spoiled with these amazing salad dressing components. And – when it’s time to make cucumber salad, tomato salad, and vegetable marinades, these will be your best friends.
We like the Salad/Sandwich Combo, so let us please introduce you to…
The Best Bread Knife We Have Ever Used: the WMF 8.25″ Bread Knife. And it’s only $36! We’ve tried a lot of different bread knives over the years. Admittedly, even the best knives are not very effective when they are no longer sharp, but this knife out-performed even in comparison to other brand-new knives. It handles well and cuts smoothly. We really love it.
To store our bread, we think the best system is this Bread Box – with cutting board lid! We keep our loaves inside an unsealed plastic bag (re-using a cleaned bag from our bagged greens) inside this bread box in order to have a loaf stay soft enough for cutting and enjoying for up to 5 days. We know counter space is at a premium in anyone’s kitchen, but this item has been prioritized over a list of other items that we’ve kicked off the counter and put in cabinets. It’s a slick system.
Now, for a peek at the season ahead of us, check out how nicely our garlic is growing:
We’ve got 2400 feet of them planted, bound mostly for our CSA shares. Haven’t joined our CSA yet? We have just 5 shares remaining. Sign up here for our Farm Share CSA and enjoy first priority of our harvests with a weekly share of our vegetables, May through November.
We’ll see you all at the Farmers’ Market @ St. Stephens tomorrow, Saturday, in the West End of Richmond. Bring your vegetable-eating belly and your gardening brain!
Also keep an eye on what we have available via the online farmers’ markets: FallLineFarms.com and Local Roots Food Coop.
Enjoy ~
Janet, Dan, & the whole Broadfork crew
